WG: Beat Me If You Can
Compilation Tape

--Taped from various places

--Your hosts are Jim Cornette & Dave Meltzer

--Nick Bockwinkle V. Terry Allen. This is from SCW, around 1983. Allen would later come to be known as Magnum TA, and was one of the best and most popular wrestlers in the world until a horrific car crash ended his career in late 1986. Bockwinkle gets the pin at 6:17 with a Piledriver. * Basic wrestling match.

--Ivan Putski V. Eddie Mansfield. This is from SCW, in 1983. Mansfield would later become famous in the wrestling industry for going on 20/20 and exposing the truth behind the wrestling business. He thought that all of the wrestling promoters were against him, so he went onto the show in an attempt to get back at them, but it didn't have the impact that he was hoping for, as even today not many people remember it, or even know about his appearance to begin with. Mansfield wins the match by disqualification at 4:20 when Putski shoves down the referee. DUD As you can see by his exhilarating performance in this match, Mansfield was right to be bitter about not being given a big push everywhere he wrestled!

--Tito Santana V. Kelly Kiniski. This is from SCW, once again in 1983. This is very early in Santana's career, and you could see flashes here & there of the more complete wrestler he would one day become. Santana wins the match at 4:51 with a Crossbody. 3Ú4* More basic wrestling in the form of a squash.

--Sheik (W/Abdullah Farooq) V. Tom Jones. This is from the Toronto territory, sometime in the early 70's. Farooq also managed under the alias of the Grand Wizard. Jones would later wrestle in WCCW under the name of Mr. Ebony. Sheik wins the match at 1:41 via submission from a Hammerlock. DUD Squash, and I never thought I'd see someone actually submit from a Hammerlock.

--Bobo Brazil V. Michael Angelo. This is from the Detroit territory, sometime in the late 70's. I have no idea who Angelo is, or whatever happened to him, so don't ask. Brazil gets the pin at 3:54 with a Headbutt. DUD Not really a squash since Angelo controlled most of the match, but bad wrestling nonetheless.

--SCW Heavyweight Championship Match: Tully Blanchard V. Wahoo McDaniel. This is from SCW, in 1984. McDaniel lands some vicious chops right off the bat, and other than his pro football career, Wahoo was most well know for his vicious chops. They were real vicious, and I'd only rank Genchiro Tenryu's & Ric Flair's as being stiffer and more vicious. Match is declared a draw at 6:15 when both guys fight outside the ring to a double count-out. **1Ú2 Some good brawling, and some good wrestling, but the match was nowhere near long enough.

--Eddie Gilbert V. Jerry Lawler. This is from the CWA, in 1984. Lots of stalling by Gilbert, and he stalls for about 97% of the match. Lawler wins by disqualification at 6:43 when Rick Rude & Jimmy Hart come down and attack him. DUD A whole lotta nothing going on in this match.

--Mud Match: Sheik (W/Eddie Creachman) V. Tiger Jeet Singh. This is from the Toronto territory, sometime in the mid 70's. There's the equivalent of a sandbox covering most of the ring, and it's filled with mud that both men must wrestle in. Sheik gets the pin at 7:27 while choking out Singh with a rope. -* Another in the long series of terrible matches between these two.

--AWA International Championship Match: Massao Ito (W/Beekeeper) V. Austin Idol. This is from the CWA, in 1984. The Beekeeper is Jimmy Hart under a bulky costume. Ito wins the match by count-out at 3:01 after the Beekeeper knocked out Idol with a shot to the head with a pair of nunchuks. DUD Some more bad wrestling.

--SCW Tag Team Championship Match: Scott Casey, Terry Allen V. Gino Hernandez, Tully Blanchard. This is from SCW, in 1983. Hernandez gets the pin on Allen at 5:57 after hitting a top-rope Backwards Elbowdrop, which was still as shitty looking as ever. * Basic tag wrestling.

--AWA Southern Championship Match: Sabu the Borneo Wildman (W/Jimmy Hart) V. Terry Taylor. This is from the CWA, in 1982. Taylor had various successful runs in both the NWA & WCW, but is more well know for his infamous stint in the WWF as the Red Rooster, which also killed his career, since he was never taken seriously anywhere he wrestled after his stint as the Rooster. Sabu, is not the Sabu from ECW fame, but is rather a Pacific Northwest mainstay who usually wrestled under the name Coco Samoa. Taylor wins by disqualification at 10:07 when Sabu tosses him over the top-rope. **1Ú4 Taylor delivered a real good performance as the babyface who refuses to give up, which helped to make this match better than the paint-by-numbers wrestling match that it was otherwise.

--Wahoo McDaniel, Uptown Boys V. Ted Oates, Grapplers. This is from CSW, Central States Wrestling, in 1984. The Boys consist of a very young Marty Jannetty & Tommy Rogers, who is not the same Tommy Rogers from the Fantastics, but is actually Tommy Lane from the Rock ÔN' Roll RPMs before he changed his name. Nice wrestling sequence by Oates & Jannetty leads to a nice pair of Armdrags & a beautiful Dropkick by Jannetty on Oates. Grappler I with a SWEET~ Snap Powerslam on Rogers. After a mat sequence between Oates & Jannetty, Oates kips up, and that's the earliest instance than I know of someone using that move. Jannetty gets the pin on Grappler II at 10:31 with a Thesz Press. ***1Ú4 Nice fast paced tag match, with Jannetty showing a lot of polish at this early point in his career.

--Final Flash: If you want to own all of the Wrestling Gold DVDs then this is for you, otherwise there is way too much bad wrestling on here for me to recommend it to anyone else.

Not Recommended.
